Use Pinterest for Your Design Inspiration

Taking on a home improvement project, whether big or small, always begins with an idea.  Sometimes it is as simple as just saying that you know you want to redo your kitchen or bathrooms, or maybe it’s just a room makeover with a nice refresh.  Either way, the idea to do it can quickly dissolve if you feel like you’re lacking a vision and direction.  That’s where having the right tool can make a massive difference!

Normally, in the Home Improvement section of our newsletter, I try to offer ideas for things you can do to improve a space or enhance your home.  This time, I want to help direct you to the wildly popular app, Pinterest.  If you don’t already have it, you should immediately download it and start playing around.  It will be a total game-changer for your ideas, and I want to tell you how to use it. \*\*For the record, I am just a big fan of Pinterest, this is not a paid advertisement ;)

When the initial idea strikes you, say the kitchen remodel, start looking up key terms in the Pinterest search bar.  For example, when my wife and I redid our kitchen last year, I wanted the cabinets to go to the ceiling with windows, but my wife needed to see how that would look before she agreed.  So, I searched for exactly what I wanted to show her:  “White kitchen cabinets built on top of existing cabinets to the ceiling with windows.”  This brought up countless pictures that led us to more ideas and configurations.  We looked at window styles, door styles, hood vent ideas… on and on!

When we decided to add the pantry build-out, we again started with Pinterest.  You truly would be amazed to see the infinite ways in which other people have improved their homes, and in many cases, will even show you HOW to do it and where to buy products you like.  You can then go on and create a “board” specifically for your project.  Say, “KITCHEN REMODEL”, and pin all of the pictures that will begin to build a vision board for all of your ideas.  This will then give you one central place to go to when talking to your contractors to show them exactly what you’re thinking of and envisioning.
